Sound
Per Sona:
In House Made of Dawn, Francisco hears different sound in different time and place, and it reveal other character's characteristic. For example, we can suspect that Abel is from different place, modern place, because Francisco hears very unique and distinct sound which is very new from him. This cause me to think that why Momaday choose sound to show difference between Francisco and Abel. I also want to know how and why Abel and Francisco's worldviews differ.

I believe that Momaday made this novel to be a critique of our world versus old views on life. The noises that are heard throughout the novel are a display of how different our new world is from that of our ancestors. Francisco and Abel's views on the world differ because they grew up in different places. Francisco grew up on the reservation away from influences of our world and Abel grew up away from town and away from his grandfather's views and away from the views of the Native Americans. The sounds are different because they now see the world very differnt from each other.
I agree, folklore and spirituality are a very important part of Native American culture and Momaday shows that by comparing the Native American "world" per se versus the ever-changing, fast paced life we live now. Fransico and Abel grew up in completely different settings and the spirituality aspect of Fransico's upbringing of course would alter his views from Abels perspective.
